What Makes Tucson Different

Tucson gets much of its rain in the summer monsoon, usually from about July into September. Storms build in the afternoon and drop heavy rain fast. Washes that are dry for months can fill in minutes, and streets flood at low crossings. Never drive into a flooded wash. Water that runs into a home from outside carries mud and debris and should be treated as contaminated.

Many homes have flat roofs with parapet walls and scuppers.
