What Makes Syracuse Different

Syracuse gets some of the heaviest snow of any large city in the country, much of it lake effect snow off Lake Ontario. Deep snow on roofs and many freeze and thaw cycles cause ice dams along the eaves, and meltwater backs up under the shingles into ceilings and walls.
