Slidell sits on the northeast shore of Lake Pontchartrain in St. Tammany Parish, with the Pearl River and the Mississippi line to the east. The land is low and flat, and many neighborhoods are cut by bayous and canals. Hurricane Katrina pushed a storm surge out of the lake in 2005 and flooded thousands of homes in Slidell.
