What Makes Nevada Different
Dry air fools people here. A spill on a tile floor in Las Vegas can be gone by lunch, so it is easy to assume a leak inside a wall dries just as fast. It does not. Water trapped behind drywall, under a slab or beneath vinyl plank has nowhere to go, and it feeds mold for weeks while the room smells fine.
Southern Nevada water is very hard. Scale shortens the life of water heaters, braided supply lines and the valves on washing machines and ice makers, which is why so many Las Vegas valley losses start at an appliance. Slab leaks are common in the older parts of the valley. Evaporative coolers on older roofs add both humidity and a slow drip that shows up as a ceiling stain in late summer.
Monsoon storms from about July to September bring flash floods that carry mud and debris into garages and ground floors. That water counts as contaminated. In Reno, Carson City and the rest of northern Nevada the bigger winter risk is frozen pipes, especially in garages, crawlspaces and exterior walls.

Checking a License in Nevada
Nevada requires a state contractor license for most repair and construction work. Ask any company for its license number and look it up with the Nevada State Contractors Board before work starts. Check that the license is active and that its classification fits the job. For the restoration side of the work, ask whether the technicians hold industry certification in water damage or mold remediation.
