What Makes the Inland Empire Different
The Inland Empire is hot and dry for much of the year, so most water damage starts inside the home. A burst supply line, a failing water heater or a slab leak under a concrete floor is far more common than a flood. A warm spot on the floor or a jump in the water bill can point to a leak under the slab. Evaporative coolers on older roofs can also leak into ceilings when a float valve sticks.
Wildfires in the foothills and mountains, often pushed by Santa Ana winds, send smoke and ash across the valleys in late summer and fall. Close windows, run a HEPA air cleaner and replace HVAC filters after a smoke event. Wash ash off with water rather than sweeping it dry.
Winter storms are few but can be intense. After a fire, bare hillsides shed water and mud quickly, so homes below burn areas can face flash floods and debris flows in the first rainy seasons. Floodwater and mud from outside are contaminated. A standard homeowners policy does not cover flood, so check your risk if you live below a slope or wash.

Checking a License in Riverside and San Bernardino
California requires a license from the Contractors State License Board for most home repair work. Look up any company’s license number on the board’s website before you sign, and check that it is active and bonded and that workers compensation insurance is on file. California has no separate state mold license, so ask whether the technicians hold industry certification in water damage and mold remediation. Asbestos work needs its own certification, so ask about it by name when a job may disturb older materials.
