Hurricane Helene in September 2024 caused historic flooding in and around Asheville. The Swannanoa and French Broad rivers swept through Biltmore Village, the River Arts District and the town of Swannanoa, and landslides and fallen trees cut off whole communities. The city water system was out for weeks.
